Exploring SF: Cafe Des Amis and The Embarcadero

For Wednesday’s photo trip Lucy and I had a scrumptious lunch at Cafe Des Amis, a cafe at the Marina that Lucy introduced me to. We each started off with a delicious and superbly mixed Greyhound’s Tooth cocktail, a mixture of grapefruit juice, vodka, and bitters. The citrus flavors masked the vodka’s strength, so sip slowly!

Next I had truffled gnocchi with hedgehog mushrooms in a light cream sauce. The gnocchi was light and airy, not dense or sticky at all. The carmelization on top introduced a slight crispness and matched the meatiness of the mushrooms well.

We finished off lunch with some bouchons served with espresso cream. The bouchons were rich and chocolatey and they were wonderful with the cream.

After our leisurely lunch, Lucy and I headed over to catch the ferry to Alcatraz. Alas, our lunch was so leisurely that we just missed the ferry. We instead wandered around The Embarcadero and looked at the cityscape from the pier.

Great weather and great company made this such a fun day!
